Parent Volunteers

Our school is run solely by parent & alumni volunteers. RVCS relies on its families for volunteer support to maintain the quality of its programs. The refundable Work Bond is designed to encourage families to volunteer to help run our school.

What is a Work Bond?
A Work Bond is a refundable payment levied on registrants for Chinese language classes. This payment is added to the cost of registration and will only be refunded when someone from the family of the student fulfills their volunteer obligation.

How much will the Work Bond be?
The Work Bond is $120 per household per school year (September – June).

What is needed to complete the volunteer obligation?
A minimum of (3) volunteer points over the course of the school year is required from each household. Activities are assigned a certain point value (usually 1/2 to 1 point each) and point values are described at the time of sign-up.

What types of volunteer activities qualify for the volunteer obligation?
There are many opportunities to volunteer time that contribute towards fulfilling a family’s volunteer obligation, from serving as a Parent on Duty for a particular week; donating a sweet or savory treat for one or both of our “Bake” Sales; serving as a judge or time-keeper for our school-wide speech contest or simply attending a parent-wide meeting. Various e-mails will be broadcasted to families throughout the year and posted on this site advertising opportunities to help. All you need to do is sign-up via the site, then show up, sign-in and do your part.

When will the Work Bonds be refunded?
Work Bonds will be refunded towards at end of the school year if you have fulfilled the volunteer obligation and do not plan to (or are uncertain whether you will) return the following year. If you plan to return for the following school year, the Work Bond will be carried over to the following year.

What happens if I don’t complete my Volunteer Bond obligation within the season?
If you do not complete your obligation by the end of the school year, you will forfeit your Work Bond and those funds will be returned to the school for operations. Volunteer assignments will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you want to make sure that you fulfill your obligation before the year ends, sign up as early as possible. RVCS is not responsible for finding volunteer tasks for parents; parents must take responsibility to sign up for and complete tasks that will meet their obligation.
